CHAPTER 2

  CAPTION PART 1,2,3

Hi everyone! Welcome to my blog 😊
I’m Aurora Putri Maheswari, and today I’m excited to share a little story behind a caption šŸ“±✨

Sometimes, a picture can say a thousand words — but a caption? That’s where the magic really happens! In this post, I’ll explain the meaning behind  caption

Activity 1

Read part 1 (page 8-11) of the module below carefully!

1. Social Function

The social function of a caption is:

➡️ To describe or comment on an image, photo, chart, graph, or table.

So, when you look at a photo or visual, a caption helps explain what’s happening or give extra information.

Example:

A man planting a tree during Earth Day.

2. Text Structure

A good caption usually includes:

  • Activity or Event:
What is happening in the photo?
"Students are cleaning the school yard."

  • People or Things Involved:
Who or what is in the photo?
"A group of volunteers from SMA 12."

  • Situation or Context:
When or where is it happening?
"During a Saturday community service program."

3. Language Features (Unsur Kebahasaan

These are the grammar elements used in captions:

✅ Noun phrases:
To describe people, animals, things, or places.
Examples: "a smart student", "the new library", "this small puppy"
Often use words like a, the, my, this, their, etc.

✅ Simple present tense:
Often used to describe current or regular events.
"The team wins the match."

4. Participle Phrases

These are phrases that start with a verb ending in -ing or -ed, and describe a subject in a short way.

Example (with -ing):
"Smiling brightly, the girl holds her trophy."
(→ describes what the girl is doing)

Example (with -ed):
"Tired from the hike, the boys rest under the tree."

These make captions sound more interesting and descriptive.

The topics used in captions usually relate to:

A person who understands the meaning of life better is one who is constantly faced with mistakes and learns from them. A person who understands the meaning of life is one who constantly explores the unknown and tries to find out. Failure is a natural part of trying and exploring something, so a person who understands the meaning of life is one who is willing to try something without fear of making mistakes.
