CHAPTER 3

EXPLANATION TEXT PART 1,2,3

Hi everyone! It’s me, Aurora Putri Maheswari againnn, and in this blog post, I’m going to talk about something you’ve probably seen in textbooks or school assignments — Explanation Text! πŸ“š✍️

🌟 What is Explanation Text?

Explanation text is a type of writing that explains how or why something happens. Its purpose is to help the reader understand a process, a phenomenon, or the reasons behind something.

PART 1

Activity 1

Read part 1 (page 7-10) of the module below carefully!

From the texts I read, I found out that an explanation text is meant to describe how or why something happens, usually in areas like science, nature, or social life. Its main goal is to make readers understand certain events or processes in a clear and logical way. An explanation text typically begins with a general introduction about the topic, followed by step-by-step explanations, and ends with a short conclusion. One of the texts, which discussed earthquakes, gave me a clearer idea of how the structure is applied. It explained the causes of earthquakes, how they occur, and the impacts they have. Thanks to these texts, I now understand how to write an explanation text and what makes it effective.

Activity 2

After watching the video, I gained a clearer understanding of what an explanation text is. This type of text is used to explain how or why something occurs, often related to natural events, science, or social topics. It usually has a structured format that starts with a general introduction, continues with a series of detailed steps or reasons, and ends with a conclusion to summarize the explanation. Explanation texts often use present tense, technical terms, and connectors that show cause and effect. What makes them helpful is how they simplify complex ideas and present them in a logical, step-by-step way. The video also showed how to organize information correctly and use real examples to make our writing more effective and informative.

Activity 3

ANSWER

1.A tsunami happens because a major fault under the ocean floor suddenly slips.

2.The impacts of a tsunami are disastrous, including severe flooding, loss of lives due to drowning, and damage to property.

3.The disturbance caused by a tsunami occurs when ocean waves spread out from the area near the earthquake source and travel across the ocean. When these waves reach the coastline, their height increases as they move over the continental shelf — the sloping part of the Earth's crust that rises from the ocean floor to the land.

4.From the second paragraph, we understand that a tsunami causes unfortunate events.

5.Overall, the text mostly explains how and why tsunamis happen.
