ANSWER

🔹 Direct Speech in Text 2

In the second text, we can find some direct speech where the speakers’ exact words are quoted using quotation marks.
For example:

  • Suyono said, "There are only three available gravediggers at the moment, so I thought I might as well put these people to work with them."

  • He also said, "Hopefully this can create a deterrent effect against violations."

  • Another direct quote is from Adj. Pol. Comm. Moh. Nur Amin, who said, "We urge the public to wear face masks in accordance with the COVID-19 health protocols."

🔹 Indirect Speech in Text 2

Meanwhile, the indirect speech version is used to report what someone said without using quotation marks.
Here are some examples:

  • Suyono explained that he gave punishment to those not wearing face masks by making them help dig graves.

  • He also mentioned that the authorities made sure these violators were not involved in the actual burial process.

  • In addition, he assigned two people for each grave — one to dig, and one to prepare the wooden boards.

What Happened

In early August 2025, forest and land fires started again in Sumatra, especially in South Sumatra and Riau. The fires caused thick haze, making it hard to breathe and reducing visibility.

Why It Matters

Forest fires in Indonesia happen almost every year during the dry season. They are often caused by illegal land clearing for farming or palm oil. The smoke can affect not only Indonesia but also neighboring countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

What’s Being Done

The government has sent firefighters and water bombing helicopters. Local people are also helping to stop the fires.
